The State of Kuwait, represented by the Public Authority for Combating Corruption (Nizahat), participated in the 12th meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Combating Corruption in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, held in Manama.
The meeting endorsed the recommendations stemming from the specialized GCC workshop on combating corruption and identifying beneficial ownership, which was organized by Nizahat in coordination with the General Secretariat of the GCC in July 2026. The workshop involved relevant anti-corruption authorities, ministries of trade and industry in the GCC states, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The workshop focused on identifying individuals who own or effectively control companies, and highlighted the importance of this information in combating corruption and limiting the use of companies to conceal illicit proceeds. Endorsing these recommendations supports GCC efforts to enhance ownership transparency and cooperation among competent authorities.
The meeting discussed several topics and proposals aimed at developing joint GCC efforts to prevent and combat corruption, including studying the feasibility of adopting a common GCC anti-corruption strategy to help coordinate efforts and exchange expertise among GCC member states. It also discussed a proposal to hold a workshop titled “Mechanisms for Enhancing Integrity and Compliance in the Private Sector,” as part of efforts to strengthen national capacities and support the role of the private sector in safeguarding integrity and consolidating responsible business practices.
The meeting also approved the results of the evaluation of research submissions in the GCC Countries’ Competition for Research and Studies in the fields of integrity protection and anti-corruption for 2026, which carried the title “Combating Corruption through Non-Judicial Means: Theoretical Approaches and Practical Experiences.”
The Kuwaiti delegation to the meeting was headed by Dr. Rana Al-Faris, President of the Public Authority for Combating Corruption (Nizahat), and included heads of anti-corruption authorities in GCC member states. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Thani, Assistant Secretary-General for Legislative and Legal Affairs at the General Secretariat of the GCC, attended the meeting.
