Qatar's Foreign Ministry: Continued Mediation Between Washington and Tehran and Support for Freedom of Navigation Through the Strait of Hormuz

Qatar’s Foreign Affairs spokesperson and advisor to the Prime Minister, Majid Al-Ansari, stated that Qatar’s mediation efforts between the United States and Iran are ongoing, and warned against Israel’s attempts to impose a fait accompli in the occupied West Bank.

Al-Ansari added during his weekly press conference in Doha: “Qatar continues its meetings and message exchanges between the parties to build a common ground that brings perspectives closer and leads to a peaceful resolution. We reaffirm the continuity of our role in mediation and supporting efforts aimed at de-escalation and restoring full freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.”

He noted that current activities involve conveying messages between the American and Iranian sides, confirming that meetings are ongoing, and pointing out that Qatar sees no solution to the crisis other than a peaceful one.

Al-Ansari said: “Qatar condemns the targeting of infrastructure, energy facilities, and ships, as this poses a threat to the interests of peoples and violates the principles of international law and good neighborliness, emphasizing the necessity of respecting infrastructure facilities in the region.” He stressed that the continuation of the crisis and instability in the region affects energy, food, and industrial supplies, and increases pressure on the global economy.

On another note, the Qatari Foreign Affairs spokesperson clarified that Qatar participated in 80 meetings, events, and ministerial partnerships during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, discussing regional issues, foremost among them the Palestinian issue and developments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. He warned against attempts to alter the status quo in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, calling for doubled efforts to halt violations and prevent Israel from imposing a reality that contradicts international consensus and the Oslo Agreement. He called for intensified efforts to stop Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, reaffirming Qatar’s continued work with its partners to support a political solution in Palestine amid the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
