The Kuwait Stock Exchange announced the launch of the third edition of the “Bell” financial literacy initiative, featuring an awareness program running throughout October that brings together six professional, academic, and investment entities. The initiative aims to make investment concepts more accessible to the public and help individuals understand their financial options and associated risks through interactive sessions, workshops, and digital content that connects knowledge with practical life needs and developments in the Kuwaiti capital market.
This new edition reaffirms the Kuwait Stock Exchange’s commitment to ensuring that market development and the expansion of investment options are accompanied by continuous efforts to educate the public. As product diversity increases and access to information becomes easier, there is a growing need for reliable content that clearly explains concepts, helping investors ask the right questions and understand what suits their goals and capabilities, free from complexity or reliance on incomplete information.
The initiative is organized in collaboration with the CFA Institute, the Kuwait Society of Chartered Financial Analysts (KSCFA), InvestGB (Gulf Capital Investment Company), the University of Kuwait, Kuwait Credit Information Network (CINET), and the Union of Investment Companies (UIC). This diversity allows for the integration of investment expertise, academic experience, and corporate insights to deliver a program targeting investors, students, and young professionals, providing each group with knowledge tailored to their specific needs.
The October program coincides with the tenth edition of “Global Investor Week,” led by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) to enhance investor awareness and protection, and supported by the World Federation of Exchanges through its “Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy” campaign. The Kuwait Stock Exchange translates this participation into a local program lasting the entire month, with educational content remaining available for use after the events conclude.
Emphasizing the importance of linking market development with investor knowledge, Nasser Al-Saneaosi, Chief Marketing and Corporate Communications Officer at the Kuwait Stock Exchange, stated: “The Kuwait Stock Exchange believes that knowledge is the foundation of informed investing, and that the value of market development is fully realized when people understand the options available and how to navigate them. Through the Bell initiative, the Exchange brings this knowledge to the public in clear language and with reliable content, helping individuals understand opportunities and risks before making decisions. This ongoing commitment translates into practical programs and partnerships that combine expertise with the ability to reach the community.”
He added: “In the third edition, we link awareness more closely with market developments and the questions that matter to investors, especially young people. Investors need to understand their options, students need to connect their studies to reality, and entrepreneurs need to understand the requirements for growing their businesses. We work with our partners to provide content that serves these needs and encourages learning and questioning. Our ambition is for financial knowledge to become part of the way people think and make decisions, and for the initiative’s impact to remain present even after its events conclude.”
Since its launch in 2024, the “Bell” initiative has built partnerships with more than ten entities, reaching over 2,000 beneficiaries. Its presence extended through the “Bell” podcast, which achieved over two million views across four seasons, broadening the reach of financial and investment content beyond direct event participants and allowing people to benefit from discussions and expertise at different times and places.
Efforts to support young talent included sponsoring the Financial Analyst Research Challenge, for which the Kuwait Stock Exchange is the first strategic partner in Kuwait. The challenge allowed approximately 100 university students to apply their learning to listed companies, practicing business and financial analysis. The value of this experience lies in transferring learning from the classroom to a practice that requires research, analysis, and evidence-based opinion building.
Knowledge Pathways Linking Knowledge to Application
Building on topics covered in previous years, such as money management, financial planning, digital financial services, sustainability, and AI applications, the third edition includes foundations of investing, market tracking, introduction to Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) and fixed-income markets, credit literacy, and entrepreneurship. This progression offers participants the opportunity to expand their knowledge and link it to changing needs and market developments.
The program dedicates space to students through an interactive dialogue session bringing together the University of Kuwait and CINET on financial and credit literacy. This session connects understanding individual financial responsibilities with recognizing the decisions involved in building and expanding businesses, bringing capital market topics closer to youth interests and the aspirations of future entrepreneurs.
Regarding digital content, October sees the launch of the fifth season of the “Bell” podcast, in collaboration with the Kuwait Society of Chartered Financial Analysts and InvestGB. Weekly episodes cover fundamental investment strategies and ways to track market developments, using a dialogue format to clarify ideas and link them to practical contexts. The podcast allows the public to follow discussions and revisit them, supporting progressive learning and maximizing the benefit from speakers’ expertise.
The Union of Investment Companies also organizes workshops on ETFs and fixed-income markets. These topics introduce participants to diverse investment options, including funds tracking specific indices and instruments such as bonds and sukuk, while explaining their characteristics and associated risks. Addressing these topics in accessible language helps build an initial understanding that goes beyond knowing product names to recognizing differences and knowing what questions to ask.
To ensure continued benefit, the Kuwait Stock Exchange collaborates with the CFA Institute to enrich the Exchange Academy with financial literacy materials and training modules available after October. This pathway gives the public the opportunity to continue learning at their own pace and time, linking live activities with a reference knowledge source, making learning a continuous process that extends beyond attending a session or watching an episode.
Partnerships Combining Expertise and Expanding Initiative Impact
The third edition of the “Bell” initiative brings together a select group of professional, academic, and investment institutions, enabling the use of diverse expertise to deliver knowledge-based and practical content related to the needs of investors, students, and market participants. It broadens financial literacy to include more specialized areas.
The University of Kuwait’s participation focuses on connecting academic knowledge with practical experiences and enabling direct interaction between students and experts. Commenting on this participation, Dr. Saad Al-Nahid, Associate Professor of Finance at the College of Administrative Sciences, said: “Our participation for the second year in the Bell initiative provides an opportunity to bring money and investment topics closer to students and link them to their lives and aspirations. Learning becomes more beneficial when students discuss real-world experiences and ask questions of specialists. Through this participation, we aim to help them understand their financial responsibilities early and expand their knowledge of the business environment, supporting their readiness for professional life and their ability to make informed decisions.”
Kuwait Credit Information Network (CINET), the provider of credit information and credit ratings in Kuwait, complements this academic pathway by raising awareness about financial obligations and the importance of understanding borrowing and installment payments within personal money management.
Regarding CINET’s participation, Mai Al-Awais, CEO of the company, stated: “Credit literacy begins with an individual’s understanding of their obligations and ability to meet them. With the variety of installment options, it is important for young people to recognize the impact of these decisions on their financial situation before proceeding. Through the Bell initiative, we share our expertise to bring these concepts closer to students and encourage responsible financial behavior. We believe that direct dialogue and examples close to daily life help transform information into a more solid understanding.”
The contribution of the CFA Institute is based on its expertise in investment education, particularly fundamental analysis, investment valuation, portfolio management, and professional ethics, supporting the development of content that combines professional knowledge with local accessibility.
In this context, Janet Touq, Director of Partnerships and Client Solutions for the Middle East and North Africa at the Institute, said: “We and the Kuwait Stock Exchange share the conviction that financial knowledge helps individuals understand their options and participate more consciously in markets. For the third year, we are proud to participate in the Bell initiative by combining the Institute’s expertise with the Exchange’s knowledge of local market needs. We look forward to continuing to develop clear and practical educational content that allows broader segments to build their knowledge and use it in their financial decisions.” The Kuwait Stock Exchange’s partnership with the CFA Institute spans three years, with the Exchange being the exclusive strategic partner for the Financial Analyst Research Challenge in Kuwait, the annual international competition in financial analysis for listed companies, which allows students from public and private universities to compete in applying their academic knowledge to real-world cases and honing their practical skills.
On the other hand, the Kuwait Stock Exchange’s partnership with the Kuwait Society of Chartered Financial Analysts (KSCFA), dating back to 2018, provides a foundation for cooperation in delivering educational content, programs, and workshops. The Society participates this year in continuing the investment dialogue through the “Bell” podcast.
On her part, Sara Abdul Samad, President of the Kuwait Society of Chartered Financial Analysts, said: “As the market evolves, investors need knowledge that helps them understand what is changing and what it means for their decisions. Through our partnership with the Kuwait Stock Exchange, we work to provide this knowledge in a clear and accessible manner. We see the Bell initiative as an opportunity to transfer specialists’ expertise into useful discussions that explain the foundations of investing and help assess opportunities and risks with greater understanding.”
The participation of InvestGB (Gulf Capital Investment Company), the investment arm of Gulf Bank, adds practical expertise in investment and asset and wealth management to the topics of the fifth season of the podcast.
Commenting on the participation, Talal Al-Khamis, Head of Equity and Fixed Income at the company, said: “We are pleased to continue cooperating with the Kuwait Stock Exchange on the Bell podcast and to share our expertise in dialogues that help the public understand investing and track market developments. We ensure that ideas are clear and relevant to what listeners need, whether they are at the beginning of their investment journey or seeking to enhance their knowledge. The true value of content lies in people’s ability to understand it and benefit from it when considering their options.”
The Union of Investment Companies also reinforces the practical aspect of the initiative through workshops that link product introduction to understanding their nature and risks.
On her part, Fadwa Darwish, Secretary General of the Union of Investment Companies (UIC), said: “We are proud to continue our participation in the Bell initiative for the second year and to support the Kuwait Stock Exchange’s efforts to consolidate financial and investment literacy. This year, we focus on topics that keep pace with market developments, including ETFs and fixed-income instruments. We at the UIC believe that the diversity of investment tools must be accompanied by greater awareness of their characteristics, risks, and opportunities, enabling investors to make more informed investment decisions. The Bell initiative represents an important model of institutional cooperation in disseminating investment knowledge and reaching a wider segment of society, while giving us the opportunity for direct communication with the public, listening to their questions, and clarifying investment topics of interest to them.”
Consolidating Financial Literacy within the Kuwait Stock Exchange’s Sustainability Strategy
The “Bell” initiative falls under the Kuwait Stock Exchange’s corporate sustainability strategy, which includes supporting education, skills development, and building partnerships with social impact. It also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). The program translates this direction into collaboration where roles are distributed according to each entity’s expertise, combining public reach, content quality, and continuous learning.
Through this program, the Kuwait Stock Exchange continues to consolidate its role in disseminating investment knowledge and linking capital market development to societal needs. The third edition of the “Bell” offers multiple learning pathways, combining dialogue, experience, and digital content, giving investors, students, and entrepreneurs the opportunity to explore topics affecting their decisions and aspirations, within a continuous institutional effort that enhances conscious and responsible participation in financial and investment life.
