The Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary and President of the Court of Cassation, Justice Dr. Adel Bursali, today on Monday, commended the Court of Cassation’s efforts in adjudicating approximately 20,000 appeals during the judicial year nearing its conclusion. He emphasized the importance of swiftly resolving appeals and efficiently clearing the backlog in the new judicial year, leveraging the court’s established competence.

Speaking at the General Assembly of the Court of Cassation, Justice Dr. Bursali stated that these efforts align with the judicial organization law, which governs the court’s operations, the formation of its chambers, and the review of matters pertinent to the smooth functioning of the judicial process. This framework ensures the delivery of true justice, upholds the rule of law, and reinforces the judicial authority that we all strive to achieve.

He highlighted that the main challenges of the new judicial year include accelerating the resolution of appeals and clearing accumulated cases with the same proven efficiency, effort, and expertise. Additionally, he stressed the need to harness digital justice to the greatest extent possible in an era where litigation is increasingly automated.

He added that the judgments and rulings issued have solidified the principles and rules governing legal and judicial work, noting the historic precedent set by the issuance of preliminary judgments and decisions on suspending or rejecting enforcement, which had not occurred since the establishment of the Court of Cassation.

Justice Bursali affirmed that the Kuwaiti judiciary has demonstrated its ability to safeguard the trust placed in it, thereby securing its position among the leading judicial systems in Arab countries. He underscored the importance of preserving this judicial heritage and maintaining the court’s esteemed status.

He expressed gratitude and appreciation for the material and moral support provided by the state to the judiciary and its members, under the gracious patronage of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah. He also extended his thanks to His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister, for his valuable support of the judiciary.

He noted that the convening of the Court’s General Assembly represents an important occasion to enhance communication and consultation among the court’s judges, and to work toward advancing justice and improving judicial performance, thereby fulfilling the aspirations and hopes of litigants in the country.
