Pakistan: Dozens killed and injured in suicide bombing in the north

A Pakistani security official announced yesterday that at least 12 civilians were killed and more than 35 others injured in a suicide bombing targeting a security checkpoint in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northern Pakistan.

Ghulam Mubashir, a police official from the Dera Ismail Khan district, told the media that “12 civilians were killed and 35 others injured when a vehicle loaded with explosives rammed into the Aman Mile police checkpoint in the area.”

He confirmed that the deceased included nine men, two women, and a minor, and that none of the security personnel were among the dead. He noted that the bombing was a suicide attack that destroyed a large part of the checkpoint and an adjacent house.

The suicide bombing comes amid a rise in terrorist attacks in Pakistan, particularly in the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which border Afghanistan.
