Oman reaffirmed its steadfast approach to finding peaceful and consensual solutions to disputes, based on values and principles that help achieve shared goals of ensuring security and stability for all, and advancing economic development projects and prosperity for peoples. This was stated during the address delivered by Omani Foreign Minister, H.E. Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, who emphasized that dialogue is the true value capable of reminding us of what unites us, as well as being the optimal means to dispel differences, build trust and understanding, and resolve issues and crises.
Al Busaidi reiterated Oman’s continued commitment to its consistent approach of seeking peaceful and consensual resolutions to disputes, grounded in values and principles that enable us to achieve our common objectives of securing security and stability for all, and promoting economic development and prosperity for our peoples. He noted that, in this context, refraining from the use of force and non-interference in the internal affairs of states, while adhering instead to the UN Charter and international law, and respecting the sovereignty and independence of states, is sufficient to regulate the rhythm governing international relations and to build trust and constructive cooperation among nations.
The Omani Foreign Minister stated, “Our region witnessed a war at the beginning of this year that could have been avoided. Subsequent events demonstrated how the escalation extended to threatening the security of regional states, disrupting navigation and trade through the vital Strait of Hormuz, thereby affecting energy security, price stability, and confidence in the current global order.”
He pointed out that Oman once again reaffirms its firm commitment to continuing its efforts to safeguard navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with the principles of international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Moreover, it calls on all parties to cooperate with these efforts to ensure the interests of all beneficiaries of the transit routes in the Strait of Hormuz are respected and protected.
He continued, “My country renews its solidarity with all neighboring states, including those that are members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, regarding the legitimate measures they take to safeguard their security, protect their sovereignty, and ensure the integrity of their territories.”
He added, “At the same time, we urge all concerned parties to resolve their outstanding differences through a policy of self-restraint, foresight, and engagement in dialogue, to reach consensual political solutions and sustainable understandings that serve the interests of all.”
Al Busaidi emphasized that the Government of Oman renews its support for finding a political solution to the crisis in Yemen, which preserves the unity, stability, and territorial integrity of that ancient country, in line with the aspirations of the Yemeni people across all its components, and on the path toward construction, development, and prosperity.
He noted that, in this context, we renew our call to all parties to respond and cooperate with one another to achieve a just settlement for this crisis, which safeguards the rights, dignity, independence, and territorial integrity of the Yemeni people, as well as its secure relations with neighboring countries in the region.
The Omani Foreign Minister reiterated his country’s ongoing rejection of continuous Israeli aggressions that have targeted numerous Arab states, and expressed condemnation of the Israeli occupation’s crimes and escalating violations against the Palestinian people, whose suffering in their quest to secure their legitimate rights and liberate their territories according to the June 4, 1967, borders, in pursuit of a two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions, has been prolonged.
He stated that Oman launched the “Muscat Plan” to work against hate speech, genocide, atrocity crimes, and incitement to such acts. This initiative was opened by the UN Secretary-General and involved broad international participation at the UN headquarters in New York on June 11, 2026.
He explained that, following this approach, the city of Muscat will host an event on the occasion of the International Day for Tolerance next November, as part of a process we hope will open avenues for further initiatives and partnerships, in collaboration with the international community and the United Nations.
He affirmed that Oman is firmly committed to sustainable development and its goals. Development is an inherent right for all, and the government continues its development plans and programs within the framework of “Oman Vision 2040.” It also continues to empower women to participate actively and contribute to the development process and decision-making, affirming that women are an integral part of building and sustaining development, not a separate objective. In this regard, eleven permanent and elected seats for women have been allocated in the Omani Shura Council.
He noted that, in the environmental field, Oman continues its efforts to implement its national strategy for transitioning to a low-carbon economy, through a wide range of projects and initiatives in renewable energy, transport, industry, and sustainable cities, to support national efforts toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
In conclusion, Omani Foreign Minister H.E. Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi renewed his thanks and appreciation to UN Secretary-General António Guterres for his tireless and courageous efforts to uphold truth and justice, and to act in accordance with the UN Charter and international law. He affirmed Oman’s support and cooperation with the United Nations in achieving its lofty objectives and purposes, contributing to a world that is more secure, stable, and prosperous.
