Mohammed Mohsen captivates the Kuwaiti audience in his first visit

Yasser Al-Ayila The Sheikh Jaber Al-Ali Concert Hall at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre was not merely a stage hosting a transient event on Thursday evening; it transformed into a complete, multifaceted visual and artistic canvas. The audience of the Centre’s performances has long been known for representing a distinct and diverse spectrum of connoisseurs of high art, individuals who meticulously select their attire with their customary elegance, out of respect for the venue’s protocol and classical value. This was perfectly embodied during that exceptional evening, which witnessed a unique convergence of dignified attendance and the enchantment of authentic melodies.

Under the title “Singing is the Life of the Soul,” the stage hosted an extraordinary celebration of the timeless Arabic musical heritage. The night drew inspiration from the masterpieces of authentic classical tarab that shaped the sensibilities of successive generations over more than a century. The protagonist of this emotional journey was the Egyptian singer Mohamed Mohsen, during his first visit to the State of Kuwait.

The most distinctive feature of the evening was the exceptional and dazzling interaction of the Kuwaiti audience, who surprised artist Mohamed Mohsen by accurately memorizing every song performed. The concert hall transformed into a trained, harmonious “human chorus” singing along with the artist, strictly adhering to the melody and rhythm. This prompted Mohsen to praise on multiple occasions the refined musical culture possessed by this audience and their deep appreciation for art.

The musical band was led by Maestro George Qalaa. Mohsen performed songs from the garden of the restorer of music, Sayed Darwish, including “Ahwa Dal Li Saar,” “Al-Halwa Di,” and “Salama Ya Salama.” He then moved on to the masterpieces of the musician of generations, Mohamed Abdel Wahab, singing “Kol Dal Kan Leh,” “Madanak Jafahu Marqudu,” and “Ya Musafir Wahdak.” The joyous style of Mohamed Fawzi was not absent from the stage, as Mohsen presented a special medley of Fawzi’s songs, including “Mal Al-Qamar Maluh” and “Ay Walloh,” followed by a medley for the artist Kamal Mahmoud, transitioning between “Amana Alayk,” “Ala Shat’ Bahr Al-Hawa,” and “Inabi.”

He returned the audience to the school of melancholy with a medley dedicated to Sheikh Zakariya Ahmed, featuring the songs “Al-Ward Jamil” and “Ya Salat Al-Zein,” culminating in the two masterpieces of musician Sid Mekaoui, the famous songs “Leilet Embarah” and “Wahyatak Ya Habibi.” Mohsen also delighted the audience with his own works, which he is known for and which resonated strongly with them, such as “Ana Atouban Min Hubbak,” “Al-Bahr Bi-Dahak Leh,” and “Fi Qalbi Makan.”
