Minister of Social Affairs dissolves and liquidates 12 civil and charitable organizations

Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Umthil Al-Hawaili, announced the issuance of decisions to dissolve and liquidate 12 civil and charitable entities, comprising six public benefit associations and six charitable foundations. This move is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to monitor and oversee civil and charitable institutions.

Al-Hawaili explained that the decisions were made after reviewing the status of the concerned entities, auditing their compliance with the laws and regulations governing their operations, and assessing whether they were fulfilling the purposes for which they were registered. It was found that some entities were not conducting any actual activities on the ground, had failed to hold general assemblies or conduct elections for several years, experienced a decline in membership numbers, and lacked official headquarters.

She emphasized that monitoring and auditing efforts are ongoing to ensure that civil and charitable institutions adhere to the regulations and controls governing their operations, stressing that necessary legal measures will be taken against any entity found to be non-compliant. Al-Hawaili noted that regulating civil and charitable work, and strengthening principles of governance, transparency, and legal compliance, aim to protect this sector, preserve its community role, and ensure that its institutions fulfill the objectives for which they were established, thereby enhancing public trust and safeguarding the public interest.
