The Public Authority for Environment has affirmed that investing in environmental health is an investment in community health and the future of generations, and that a healthy environment forms the foundation for quality of life and sustainable development.
Sheikha Al-Ibrahim, the official spokesperson and Director of Public Relations and Media at the Authority, told KUNA on the occasion of World Environment Day, which falls on September 26 of each year, that protecting the environment and preserving human health represent a shared responsibility requiring the concerted efforts of various entities, institutions, and members of society.
Al-Ibrahim explained that this year’s celebration of the occasion comes under the theme “Environmental Health: Standing with Science to Protect Communities,” reflecting the importance of relying on science, knowledge, and environmental data to confront challenges and risks that may affect human health and environmental integrity.
She added that environmental health is directly linked to several aspects of daily life, ranging from air and water quality to waste management, reducing pollution sources, and conserving natural resources.
She noted that the Authority continues its efforts in environmental protection, monitoring pollution sources, and enhancing compliance with environmental regulations and standards, alongside supporting awareness initiatives and programs aimed at instilling responsible environmental behavior among all segments of society.
She pointed out that achieving a healthy and sustainable environment does not rely solely on the role of institutions but requires an effective community partnership in preserving the environment through positive daily practices, rationalizing resource consumption, reducing waste, and maintaining public cleanliness.
She emphasized that raising environmental awareness among individuals is one of the key pillars of prevention and enhancing public health, calling for continued efforts to strengthen environmental awareness and adopt sustainable practices that contribute to building a healthier, more aware, and responsible society toward the environment.
