First Deputy Prime Minister Participates in UN Crime Prevention Conference in Abu Dhabi
The fifteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (Abu Dhabi 2026) kicked off today, Saturday, with the participation of the State of Kuwait, represented by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, alongside ministers, officials, experts, and representatives from a large number of countries around the world.
Also attending the conference proceedings are Awatef Al-Sand, Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Justice, along with a number of Kuwaiti officials and specialists in legal, judicial, and security fields, as part of the State of Kuwait’s delegation participating in the conference and its various activities.
The conference, hosted at the ADNEC Abu Dhabi center, will run until October 1 of next year, with an expected participation of between 3,000 and 5,000 attendees from more than 97 countries, in addition to numerous ministers, senior officials, and experts specializing in crime prevention, criminal justice, and the rule of law.
Held under the theme “Accelerating Action in Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and the Rule of Law: Protecting People and the Planet and Achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Digital Age,” the conference addresses a range of issues related to organized and transnational crime, cybercrime, human trafficking, drug offenses, money laundering, and environmental crimes.
The conference also explores the responsible use of artificial intelligence and modern technology in the field of criminal justice, as well as ways to enhance international cooperation and develop justice systems that keep pace with technological transformations while safeguarding rights, privacy, and transparency.
The conference program includes a high-level segment, plenary sessions, committees, specialized workshops, 15 high-level events, more than 200 in-person and virtual side meetings, and a companion exhibition featuring 38 display platforms.
The “Abu Dhabi Declaration” project constitutes one of the conference’s most anticipated outcomes, aiming to set priorities and practical directions in the fields of crime prevention and criminal justice over the next five years. It covers key pillars related to prevention, the rule of law, evolving criminal threats, innovation, and international cooperation.
The United Nations Congresses on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice have been held every five years since 1955, with the objective of exchanging expertise, identifying emerging trends and challenges, and strengthening international cooperation in the areas of crime prevention, criminal justice, and the rule of law.
