Foreign Minister Discusses with His Iranian Counterpart Efforts to De-escalate Tensions and Resume the Diplomatic Track

Cairo – Khadija Hamouda: Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, met yesterday with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nader Zaki, stated that the meeting addressed recent developments in the region, with both ministers reviewing efforts and proposals being put forward to reach an agreement that would contain tensions and de-escalate the situation.

The spokesperson added that Minister Abdelatty stressed the paramount importance of each country fulfilling its responsibilities to ensure the free flow and freedom of international navigation, so as to mitigate the negative repercussions of this crisis on the global economy, which have significantly disrupted energy and fertilizer supply chains and international trade.

Minister Abdelatty also emphasized the importance of respecting the security and stability of the Gulf states and all countries in the region. He further underscored the necessity of returning to dialogue and resuming the diplomatic track through negotiations and reaching understandings between the United States and Iran, as this is the only way to end the current crisis and halt the escalation that is causing severe damage to the interests of all countries in the region.
