Weightlifting concludes its participation in the World Championship in Athens with a gold and a bronze medal
Kuwait’s national weightlifting team concluded its participation in the World Weightlifting Championships held in Athens, Greece, by securing one gold and one bronze medal amid extensive international competition.
Mohammed Al-Nasser won the bronze medal after finishing third in the world in the 45-year-old age category in the 110-kilogram weight class, while player Abrar Al-Fahad claimed the gold medal in the 40-year-old age category in the 86-kilogram weight class.
In a statement to KUNA, Talal Al-Jassar, President of the Kuwait Weightlifting Federation and Vice President of the Arab Weightlifting Federation, said that Kuwait’s participation met expectations and that the national team’s athletes earned well-deserved medals while competing against an elite field of the world’s top weightlifters.
He added that the federation placed its trust in its athletes, noting that the results were the fruit of long-term preparation and hard work leading up to the championship, and commended the efforts of the players as well as the technical and administrative staff.
Al-Jassar expressed his gratitude to Dr. Tariq Al-Jalhamat, Minister of State for Youth and Sports Affairs, and Bashar Abdullah, the appointed Director General of the General Authority for Youth and Sports, for their support of the national team delegation, emphasizing that the goal is to raise the flag of Kuwait on the international sports stage.
For his part, national team captain Mohammed Al-Nasser, in a similar statement, said that the competition was intense and highly competitive given the participation of the world’s elite athletes, explaining that the support and encouragement from his teammates and coaches helped him secure a bronze medal that reflects the standing of Kuwaiti athletes in weightlifting.
He affirmed that the participation aims to elevate Kuwait’s name and strengthen its presence among the countries competing in the championship, which featured more than 1,510 male and female athletes representing 76 countries from around the world, making it one of the largest editions in the history of the sport in terms of the number of participating athletes.
Al-Nasser extended his thanks to Dr. Tariq Al-Jalhamat, Minister of State for Youth and Sports Affairs; Bashar Abdullah, the appointed Director General of the General Authority for Youth and Sports; and Talal Al-Jassar, President of the Weightlifting Federation, for the support and facilitations they provided to the national team, confirming that this had a positive impact on the athletes’ performance and results.
