Diesel price in Europe jumps to all-time high

Diesel prices at fuel stations in the European Union hit a new record high of 2.23 euros per liter, up from 2.16 euros in the previous week, according to an analysis by France-Presse of national data published by the European Commission on Thursday.

Based on these data, which have been published weekly since 2005, record prices were recorded in 19 of the EU’s 27 member states, including Germany, France, and Italy, driven by energy shocks resulting from the war in the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Among the new record highs, Denmark and Finland posted the highest prices, with diesel (also known as gas oil) reaching 2.56 euros per liter in each country, followed by Germany (2.46 euros), then Belgium and France (around 2.40 euros), and Italy (around 2.30 euros).

Other countries, such as Spain and Sweden, also saw price increases, but their levels remain below the peak recorded in 2022 following Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine.

These data are published in the European Commission’s Petroleum Bulletin after being obtained from national authorities and generally reflect fuel station price levels at the beginning or end of the previous week.
