Sosa: We failed to secure a win

Helio Souza, coach of the Kuwait national football team, stated that the 0-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in the opening match of Group A at the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup was difficult, as expected, particularly in the first half. He emphasized that the "Blue" team managed to implement its strategy during the match.

In a post-match press conference, Souza added that the second half was even more challenging, as the team struggled to maintain possession. He noted that the squad is still striving for development and possesses the ability to play sustainably and cohesively for the full 90 minutes, stressing that the players gave their best effort.

Souza indicated that the players deserved the support of the fans, explaining that the team had the opportunity to win but failed to do so.

He clarified that "if you want to pressure your opponent, you must apply that pressure in their half of the pitch. This requires both physical and mental strength, which is what we are working to build within the national team." He affirmed that if the team can execute this approach, it will be difficult for opponents to keep up.

Regarding the decision not to start with forward Yousef Nasser, Souza explained that he preferred to begin with another striker, given Nasser's recent addition to the squad. He noted that Nasser came on at the right time and delivered what was asked of him, highlighting his ability to find space behind the defense and create chances from deep positions, describing him as a standout player.
