Nagoya – The Olympic Committee: Competition continues at the 20th Asian Games, “Aichi-Nagoya,” which will run until October 6. In yesterday’s events, the shooting duo of veteran shooter Abdullah Al-Rashidi and shooter Iman Al-Shammah delivered a strong and dignified performance in the mixed doubles skeet event, but luck stood in the way of their qualification for the medal-contending final round.
The pair missed qualification by just one target, finishing the qualifying rounds with 137 targets hit out of 150 across three consecutive rounds. The detailed round-by-round results were as follows: Round 1 – 48 targets; Round 2 – 48 targets; Round 3 – 41 targets.
With this total, the Kuwaiti national team finished fifth in the overall qualifying standings, just one target behind the Indian team, which placed fourth with 138 targets and secured the final qualifying spot for the final round.
Kuwaiti squash player Ammar Al-Tamimi also exited the singles competition in the Round of 16 after losing to Pakistan’s Nour Zaman, the world No. 3 seed. The match featured periods of intense competition but ultimately fell short against the global star’s experience.
Promising swimmer Khalid Al-Otaibi added a new personal achievement to his record, breaking two Kuwaiti national records. He set a new Kuwaiti record in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:28.75, then followed up with another new Kuwaiti record in the men’s 200-meter medley, clocking 2:07.14.
Kuwaiti athletics champion Ibrahim Al-Zafiri confirmed his full readiness to compete in the 800-meter race, scheduled for next Sunday. He explained that his participation is the result of a carefully planned and intensive preparation program developed by the Olympic Committee in collaboration with the Athletics Federation.
The Kuwaiti delegation has so far made a distinguished appearance, securing a positive tally of five medals (two gold, one silver, and two bronze). It aims for further achievements as the athletics competitions begin, highlighted by Ibrahim Al-Zafiri’s entry in the 800 meters and Yaqub Al-Yoha’s participation in the 110-meter hurdles.
The remaining competitions begin today in swimming, where swimmer Mona Al-Farsi will compete in the women’s 50-meter butterfly heats, followed by swimmer Rashid Al-Tarmoom in the men’s 50-meter breaststroke heats, and then swimmer Mohammed Al-Otaibi in the men’s 200-meter butterfly heats. In athletics, athlete Talal Al-Rashoud will compete in the men’s hammer throw final.
