Al-Sharaa: Our participation in the UN General Assembly is a milestone to consolidate our nation's presence among nations
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa affirmed that Syria’s participation in the work of the United Nations General Assembly in New York served as a milestone to consolidate its presence on the international stage, strengthen its partnerships, and restore its role.
Speaking on the X platform yesterday, President al-Sharaa stated: “From the podium of the UN General Assembly, I carried the voice of a Syria that has returned and a Syria that is rising.” He added: “Our participation was a milestone to affirm our nation’s presence among nations, enhance its partnerships, and open broader horizons for a future shaped by Syrians’ own will, in which Syria reclaims its status and role.”
President al-Sharaa delivered Syria’s address to the UN General Assembly at its 81st session the day before yesterday, discussing the progress achieved in building state institutions, consolidating security and stability, lifting sanctions, expanding Syria’s diplomatic presence and international relations, and restoring its role and position in trade flows, regional connectivity, and energy corridors.
He also met with members of the Syrian community in the United States, participated in a meeting held by U.S. President Donald Trump with several Arab and Islamic leaders, and met with French President Emmanuel Macron and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, among other Arab and international officials.
Al-Sharaa emphasized that efforts are underway to entrench the concept of respect for the law over the next five years, ensuring that power is not vested in a single individual, but that all state institutions fully exercise their roles in accordance with the law and the constitution.
During a dialogue session hosted by the Atlantic Council in New York last Tuesday, in which he outlined the Syrian leadership’s vision for the country’s future and the political, economic, and security developments in the region, al-Sharaa said: “Syria is cooperating with many countries to strengthen its institutional framework and provide all necessary support, whether in training or the exchange of expertise.”
Regarding repeated Israeli attacks and security challenges, President al-Sharaa clarified that Israel continues its repeated incursions and maintains its occupation of parts of Syrian territory that it advanced into after the fall of the former regime. He noted that Israel also continues its incursions, arrests, and repeated shelling, stressing that peace with Israel cannot be achieved while Syrian territory remains occupied, and that the restoration of Syrian rights is a prerequisite for lasting peace in the region.
