Trump receives Chinese counterpart at the White House

U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted a grand reception for Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, at the White House, following Trump’s greeting of his Chinese counterpart at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington.

In a speech during the reception, Trump stated, “Our relationship with China is based on mutual respect, and we are proud of our relations with them.” He added, “We will discuss urgent issues regarding security and artificial intelligence with the Chinese President.” The U.S. President affirmed, “We are working toward balanced trade relations with China, and we will continue to work with the Chinese President to build a better future for both countries.”

For his part, Xi Jinping said that China and the United States are great nations with great peoples, and that China seeks to enhance cooperation with America. He continued, “In the face of change, the United States and China bear a great responsibility for human progress.”
