Hassan Al-Mutairik, a pioneer of university theater, has passed away

The soil of Kuwait received the body of the late artist and producer Hassan Abdullah Al-Mutairik in the Salibiya Cemetery on the afternoon of the day before yesterday, following a bitter struggle with illness. His career spanned several decades, during which he combined legal work with theatrical activity and artistic production, contributing significantly to the cultural and theatrical scene in Kuwait.

The deceased obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Law and Sharia from Kuwait University in 1981. He began his relationship with theater at an early age, becoming a member of the Arab Theater Troupe in 1978 and serving on its board of directors for several terms. Al-Mutairik was also a founder of the University Theater Troupe in Kuwait, where he served as president. He wrote and directed several plays for the troupe, including “The Price” (1978), “Madness in Madness” (1980), and “The Brain” and “The Plague” (1981). In 1982, he directed and acted in the play “The Buffet,” written by the Arab writer Ali Salem.

In the cultural and media fields, Al-Mutairik was the owner and editor-in-chief of “Oscar” magazine, a cultural and artistic publication launched in 1993 that contributed to covering cultural and artistic affairs.
