Madbouly stresses the need to redirect the capacities of the international financial system to achieve greater justice

Cairo – Ahmed Sabri: Prime Minister Dr. Mustafa Madbouly delivered a speech at the Leaders’ Meeting on “Partnership for Multilateral Action, Security, and Peace,” held in New York as part of the 81st regular session of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting was attended by Kenyan President William Ruto, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, European Council President Antonio Costa, and a number of heads of state and government, as well as other officials participating in the session.

Madbouly leads Egypt’s delegation to the UN General Assembly meetings.

In the opening of his address, Madbouly noted that all participants share the same noble objectives: enhancing peace and stability, supporting sustainable development, and strengthening multilateralism and the goals and principles of the UN Charter. However, achieving these objectives appears more difficult today than ever before, given the rising number of conflicts worldwide. He pointed out that poverty, inequality, and severe challenges hindering the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals remain serious obstacles, not only to prosperity but also to international stability.

The Prime Minister emphasized that joint efforts must prioritize conflict prevention and resolution. He explained that, for a long time, the initial response of some parties to potential conflicts has been to resort to unilateral measures, overlooking the numerous benefits of diplomacy.

He stressed that the root causes of conflicts have yet to be adequately addressed, noting that in many cases, these causes include poverty, inequality, and underdevelopment. Madbouly underscored the need to redirect the capacities of the international financial system to achieve greater justice and better reflect the interests and needs of countries in the Global South.

The Prime Minister affirmed that the multilateral international system must remain at the core of all these efforts, clarifying that the United Nations holds a unique position enabling it to provide the vital assistance necessary to achieve our common goals, provided it is sufficiently empowered to carry out its mandate.

He highlighted the necessity of seizing every opportunity to inject new momentum into the multilateral system, fulfilling our responsibilities by providing the necessary resources, demonstrating political will, and uniting behind our shared objectives.
