Al-Sharaa discusses the situation in Syria with members of Congress

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa met in New York yesterday with several members of the U.S. Congress to discuss bilateral relations with the United States, the situation in Syria, and regional and international developments. According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the members of Congress affirmed their support for Syria’s unity and sovereignty, as well as efforts toward reconstruction, recovery, and enhancing stability.

At the outset of his visit to New York, President al-Sharaa met with a delegation from the Syrian community in the United States, in the presence of Foreign Minister and Minister of Expatriates Asaad al-Shibani, Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raad al-Salih, and other officials.

During the meeting, the President discussed the latest developments in Syria, key achievements over the past period, and the path of reconstruction and recovery. He also listened to remarks and suggestions from attendees on several issues.

He emphasized the important role of the diaspora in strengthening and advancing Syrian-American relations, as well as leveraging the expertise and competencies of Syrians abroad and their contribution to reconstruction and development efforts.

During his meeting with the community delegation, he outlined the measures the state has taken to encourage industrialists to return to Syria.

Last year, the Syrian President participated for the first time in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. In his address, he stated that Syria had triumphed for the entire world by dismantling a criminal system that had persisted for 60 years, transforming from a country that exported crises into a historic opportunity to establish stability, peace, and prosperity for the entire region.

President al-Sharaa and his accompanying delegation arrived in New York the day before yesterday to participate in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, where he is scheduled to deliver a statement on behalf of the Syrian Arab Republic and hold discussions with several heads of state and officials.
