Al-Mish'an: Developing modern and sustainable transport infrastructure is a fundamental pillar for achieving the goals of "Kuwait Vision 2035"

Kuwaiti Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan affirmed that developing a modern and sustainable transport infrastructure is a fundamental pillar for achieving the objectives of “Kuwait Vision 2035.” She noted that sustainable transport represents a balance between environmental responsibility, economic viability, accessibility, and operational efficiency.

These remarks were made in a speech delivered by Dr. Al-Mashaan on behalf of the State of Kuwait at the 2026 Global Sustainable Transport Forum, organized by China’s Ministry of Transport in the capital, Beijing. The forum, held under the theme “Sustainable Transport: Easier Mobility for People and Smoother Flow of Goods,” was attended by Chinese Transport Minister Liu Wei, ministers and heads of delegations from various countries, and representatives of international organizations, with the aim of enhancing international cooperation in sustainable transport and facilitating the exchange of experiences among nations.

Minister Al-Mashaan stated that Kuwait’s approach focuses on building an integrated transport system that combines connectivity, accessibility, economic efficiency, environmental responsibility, and long-term sustainability.

The forum discusses five main axes: deepening global initiatives, enhancing connectivity, building an integrated transport system, prioritizing green transport, transforming the sector through the application of artificial intelligence in transport, and ensuring inclusive access to sustainable transport services for all.

The forum, organized by the Global Center for Sustainable Transport Innovation and Knowledge under China’s Ministry of Transport, is part of efforts to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026–2035. It aims to build international consensus on a safe, efficient, green, inclusive, and resilient transport system.

In a related development, Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan conducted a field visit to a labor city developed by a Chinese state-owned company during her visit to China.

In a press statement issued yesterday, the Ministry of Public Works noted that Dr. Al-Mashaan inspected the facilities of the labor city and its implementation model, as well as the company nominated by the Chinese government to develop labor cities in Kuwait, in accordance with the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries on this matter.

The ministry added that this memorandum is one of seven memoranda of understanding signed by His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Amir of Kuwait, with the Government of the People’s Republic of China in 2023.
