Al-Hamidan: Expanding partnership with the private sector to serve productive sectors

Dr. Faisal Al-Hamidan, Director General of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), and Khalifa Al-Ghanim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Arabian Gulf Pearl Company, signed a research cooperation memorandum between the Institute and the Company. The memorandum aims to develop solutions and technologies in the field of construction materials and infrastructure, and to open the door for joint projects that link scientific research with industrial application.

Dr. Faisal Al-Hamidan affirmed that the cooperation with Arabian Gulf Pearl Company reflects the Institute’s orientation toward expanding partnerships with the private sector and making its expertise and research capabilities available to serve productive sectors, ultimately leading to solutions that can be tested, developed, and transferred from the laboratory to the application environment.

He stated that the construction and infrastructure sector represents one of the fields in which the Institute has accumulated research and applied expertise over the years, noting that the current phase requires building on this expertise through partnerships that enable the development and testing of research solutions, as well as studying their potential for application and utilization within the sector.

He added that research into alternatives to aggregates and construction materials is not solely related to developing concrete properties, but is also connected to broader issues, including resource sustainability, utilizing locally available materials, and seeking local alternatives that can be leveraged to meet the needs of the construction sector once their efficiency and compliance with required specifications have been demonstrated.
