Minister of Social Affairs Discusses Enhancing Humanitarian Cooperation with UNHCR Advisor for Gulf States

Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Hawaili, met with Dr. Khalid Al-Khalifa, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees’ Advisor for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and partnership in humanitarian and relief fields.

In a press release, the Ministry stated that the coordination meeting discussed the importance of the role played by the UNHCR in managing relations and coordinating humanitarian and relief partnerships with governments, relevant stakeholders, and private sector institutions in the Gulf states, contributing to the support of refugees and those affected worldwide.

According to the statement, Al-Hawaili affirmed the Ministry’s readiness to strengthen constructive cooperation with the UNHCR in charitable and humanitarian work, in accordance with legal frameworks and approved official channels.

Both sides emphasized the importance of the recently issued legislation regulating charitable and humanitarian work, and its role in reinforcing governance and transparency principles, establishing a clear institutional framework for regulating charitable activities, protecting donors’ funds, ensuring they are directed to their intended purposes, and preventing the exploitation or misuse of charitable work.

Dr. Amthal Al-Hawaili, Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Affairs, also met with Mohamed Abu El-Wafa, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the State of Kuwait, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences between the two sister countries in social and humanitarian fields.

The Ministry of Social Affairs explained in a press release that the meeting addressed areas of cooperation in protecting women and children, and regulating charitable and humanitarian work, reflecting the strength of relations between the two sister countries and supporting pathways for joint action.

According to the statement, both sides affirmed the depth of the historical and fraternal ties between the State of Kuwait and the Arab Republic of Egypt, and their commitment to enhancing cooperation across various fields.
