4 Important Steps to Secure Home Surveillance Cameras

The General Directorate of Security and Media Relations at the Ministry of Interior outlined four key steps to secure home surveillance cameras.

In a post on the ministry’s account on the “X” platform, as part of the “Prevention and Safety” awareness campaign, it stated that four elements ensure the security of home surveillance cameras: the password, the home internet network, remote access services, and the source of purchase. It urged users to configure each element once and review them periodically.

Regarding the four steps to secure the cameras, it explained that they include: regularly changing the default password and using symbols and numbers; connecting the camera to a reliable and protected home internet network; changing the ONVIF service password, which can be used for remote access, and monitoring the login log; and purchasing cameras from well-known and reputable companies to ensure the strength of their security systems.

The Ministry of Interior emphasized the necessity of changing the device settings, noting that if users are unsure how to set the camera system password, they should refer to the user manual or the installation company.
