Representative of His Highness the Crown Prince: The current phase requires the concerted efforts of the international community to de-escalate tensions at all levels

His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid, the Crown Prince, met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at the headquarters of the international organization in New York on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Crown Prince conveyed the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad, the Amir of Kuwait, to the Secretary-General at the outset of the meeting.

During the meeting, the Crown Prince affirmed Kuwait’s commitment to actively participating in the work of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly. He noted the critical nature of the current phase and the need for concerted international efforts to de-escalate tensions at all levels. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the role of the United Nations and enhancing its mechanisms to address successive crises, thereby contributing to establishing the foundations of regional and international security and stability and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

For his part, UN Secretary-General António Guterish praised Kuwait’s historic and pioneering role in supporting the international organization. He commended the country’s intensive diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue and settle conflicts through peaceful means, as well as its continuous support for humanitarian efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of affected populations and its backing of the United Nations’ noble activities in maintaining international peace and security.

The meeting also included a review of the latest developments and the evolving situation on the regional and international scenes, particularly the efforts underway to end tensions in the region. The two sides exchanged views on ways to enhance cooperation in addressing the growing global challenges.
