Cairo – Ahmed Sabri: Dr. Mustafa Madbouli, Prime Minister, held a meeting at the government headquarters in Qasr al-Aini to follow up on efforts to stimulate local production, deepen national industrialization, and increase exports, attended by Ahmed Kojok, Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, and officials from both ministries.
At the outset of the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that stimulating local production, deepening national industrialization, and increasing exports are at the top of the government’s priorities during the current stage. He stressed the necessity of continuing to create an attractive and stable investment climate for foreign direct investment, and removing various procedural and regulatory hurdles facing the business community, thereby contributing to the localization of strategic industries and maximizing the added value to the national economy.
Dr. Madbouli clarified that empowering the private sector and enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian products in regional and international markets constitute the fundamental pillar for achieving the state’s targets in developing national exports and reaching unprecedented qualitative levels, alongside rationalizing the import bill. This approach consolidates the foundations of financial and economic stability and strengthens the resilience of the national economy in the face of rapidly escalating global challenges.
During the meeting, Dr. Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, presented a comprehensive report on the overall performance of Egypt’s non-petroleum export and import movements from January 2022 through August 2026. He pointed out the noticeable improvement witnessed in the trade balance during 2025 compared to the previous year, driven by positive growth in Egypt’s non-petroleum exports across various sectors and export commodities.
The Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade noted that imports of production inputs recorded a significant increase from January to August 2026, reflecting the continued rise in demand for production process inputs and the rotation of the local manufacturing wheel, alongside meeting essential needs for basic and strategic goods.
He also presented the roadmap for the Egyptian export development strategy, which is based on integrated work axes aimed at achieving a qualitative leap in the national export system and enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian goods and products in external markets.
The Minister explained that the strategy adopts a comprehensive package of support mechanisms and incentives, including developing the logistics system and facilitating rapid sea and air shipping services to accelerate the penetration of products into regional and international markets, as well as promising target markets. It also encourages manufacturers to update machinery and equipment and localize advanced technologies in production lines.
The Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade indicated that the strategy’s axes prioritize enabling Egyptian companies to meet environmental sustainability requirements and obtain global quality and accreditation certifications. It also emphasizes investing in human capital through specialized training programs to enhance the efficiency of technical cadres, as well as strengthening the international presence of national products by facilitating participation in specialized international exhibitions, supporting registration on e-commerce and marketing platforms, and consolidating the global identity of Egyptian brands.
He further stressed that the strategy integrates with the state’s dimensions of developmental and geographic justice, by providing additional targeted incentives to support export projects in Upper Egypt governorates and border areas. This contributes to disseminating the benefits of development and creating sustainable jobs across various governorates.
