Food Authority: 204 kilograms of unfit fish destroyed in the capital

As part of the continuous regulatory efforts by the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition to protect consumer health and safety, the Capital Governorate Inspection Department issued 34 violation reports and closed one non-compliant food establishment.

The violations included displaying food items unfit for human consumption, failing to comply with health requirements and general and personal hygiene standards, handling food and employing workers without meeting the required health conditions and obtaining the necessary health certificates, transporting food items using unlicensed vehicles, and operating an establishment after its health license had expired.

The campaign also resulted in the destruction of 204 kilograms of fish unfit for human consumption, with the necessary legal actions taken against the violators.

The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition launched the national awareness campaign “With Calories… Your Menu Is Clearer, and Trust Is Greater,” under the patronage of Dr. Reem Al-Faleh, Minister of State for Development and Sustainability Affairs, and under the supervision of Dr. Shaima Al-Asfour, Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition. This initiative is part of the Authority’s efforts to enhance nutritional awareness and promote transparency in the food sector.

The campaign aims to encourage local food establishments to disclose calorie counts on their menus, enabling consumers to access clear nutritional information that helps them make more informed dietary choices and strengthens trust between consumers and food establishments.

The Authority emphasized that this initiative is part of its awareness programs aimed at promoting a culture of healthy nutrition and raising awareness of the importance of nutritional information in supporting public health. It called on all local food establishments to participate in the campaign and contribute to establishing a culture of calorie disclosure as a key pillar for enhancing transparency and improving the quality of food services provided to the community.

The Authority noted that the campaign embodies the partnership between government entities and the food sector in achieving the goals of sustainable health development and building a more nutritionally aware environment that supports the health of community members and enhances the quality of life.
