The Public Authority for Environment announced on Sunday that environmental conservation is a shared societal responsibility that requires cooperation and participation in initiatives that directly contribute to preserving natural resources and enhancing their sustainability for current and future generations.

Sheikha Al-Ibrahim, the authority’s official spokesperson and director of the Public Relations and Media Department, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the occasion of World Cleanup Day, which is observed annually on September 20, that this day represents an opportunity to emphasize the importance of environmental conservation and to entrench a culture of cleanliness and environmental volunteerism in Kuwait.

Al-Ibrahim clarified that environmental conservation requires concerted efforts to curb various sources of pollution, ensure proper waste management, and reduce plastic waste and other pollutants that may adversely affect the environment and its components.

She noted that the authority places great emphasis on environmental awareness and education, supporting efforts to reduce pollution and maintain the cleanliness of public spaces through awareness programs, while also monitoring compliance with environmental laws and regulations and collaborating with various entities and institutions to implement environmental initiatives and campaigns.

She added that cleanup campaigns, including coastal cleanups, constitute important initiatives for enhancing environmental awareness, as they combine fieldwork with direct education and help entrench a culture of environmental conservation.

She stated that Kuwait possesses a diverse natural environment, and preserving it requires sustained environmental efforts, strengthened partnerships among government entities, the private sector, civil society organizations, and volunteers, alongside raising awareness across all segments of society.

She underscored the importance of enhancing environmental awareness and encouraging members of society to adopt positive behaviors and sustainable practices, such as not littering in public places, reducing the use of plastic materials, and avoiding discarding plastic waste into the sea, in order to mitigate the impacts of pollution and preserve natural resources and wildlife and marine life.
