Syrian Defense Ministry mourns 11 of its personnel killed in explosion at military site in Deir ez-Zor

The Syrian Ministry of Defense held funeral rites yesterday for 11 of its personnel who were killed in an explosion that occurred the day before yesterday at a Syrian Arab Army site in the Iyash area of western Deir ez-Zor countryside. According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the funeral ceremonies took place at the National Hospital in Deir ez-Zor city, attended by several officials, the victims’ families, and their comrades.

The ministry had stated the day before yesterday, via the Al-Ikhbariya channel, that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion, and that firefighting and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene.

Previously, several explosions of unknown origin have occurred at weapons depots in Syria, including an explosion in the Idlib countryside in the northwest of the country on September 9 that killed 14 people. Ten days before that, an explosion involving a vehicle loaded with ammunition killed at least five people in the same area.
