Arsenal suffer heavy first defeat as Brighton score a triple

Brighton stunned title holders Arsenal, handing them their first defeat of the season with a 3-0 victory on Saturday in the fifth round of the English Premier League, while injured Tottenham suffered another loss that placed immense pressure on their Italian manager, Roberto De Zerbi.

Arsenal relinquished the top spot to their rivals Manchester City, who moved into first place without playing, thanks to a goal difference advantage, ahead of their match against Sunderland on Sunday.

Brighton took the lead with a powerful shot from outside the area by Gross, which struck the left post before finding its way into the net (31).

In a separate match, Hull City’s campaign suffered its first defeat with a 1-2 loss to hosts Newcastle United.

Newcastle took the lead with goals from Joe Willock (3) and Lewis Hall (7). Democratic Republic of Congo forward Yoan Wissa missed a penalty to extend the lead (45+2), before substitute Frenchman Mohamed Ali Chou reduced the deficit (67).

Frenchman Tierno Barry earned his team Everton their second victory by scoring the only goal of the match (11) against visitors Ipswich, who were reduced to ten men from the 67th minute following the red card for Ghanaian Isaccu Fatou.
