Mexican Ambassador: We look forward to expanding economic partnership with Kuwait

US Ambassador to Kuwait Eduardo Patricia Peña Haller affirmed the depth of Kuwaiti-Mexican relations and their continuous development, noting that the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1975 on a solid foundation of mutual respect, friendship, and a shared commitment to enhancing cooperation.

In his address during a reception hosted by the embassy to mark the 216th anniversary of Mexico’s independence, attended by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asian Affairs Nawaf Abdul Latif Al-Ahmad, along with numerous ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the country, Ambassador Peña Haller stated that bilateral relations encompass political dialogue, as well as economic, trade, cultural, and educational cooperation, alongside growing ties between the two peoples. He emphasized that Mexico attaches special importance to continuing to develop and expand its economic partnership with Kuwait.

He added that the latest official trade data available from the Mexican side indicates that Mexican exports to Kuwait reached approximately $51 million in 2026 to date, noting that trade relations between the two countries still offer a wide scope for growth and diversification.

He explained that Mexican exports to Kuwait this year have included vehicles dedicated to freight transport, auto parts, air and vacuum pumps, iron and steel pipes, as well as a variety of agricultural products, viewing this as a reflection of the ability of Mexican companies to participate effectively in the Kuwaiti market.

He pointed out that while these figures are encouraging, they simultaneously confirm that the latent potential in the economic and trade relations between the two countries is far greater. He clarified that Mexico is one of the largest exporters of goods in North America and possesses an industrial and export base with international competitiveness in sectors such as automobiles and auto parts, aerospace, computers and data processing, beverages, medical devices, electronics, and food products.

The Mexican Ambassador affirmed that the State of Kuwait offers significant opportunities for Mexican companies and investors, especially given its efforts to achieve development goals and diversify its economy. He stressed the need to continue joint efforts to increase trade exchange, encourage investment, and establish stronger links between the business communities of the two countries.

He noted that the signing of more than 25 agreements between Kuwait and Mexico represents an important foundation for enhancing bilateral cooperation. He explained that the Mexican Embassy is making significant efforts to promote scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation, enabling universities and research centers in both countries to encourage young Kuwaitis and Mexicans to participate in joint projects that contribute to strengthening ties between the two societies.

He emphasized the importance of this cooperation, particularly in the current phase where technological advancement has become a fundamental pillar for enhancing competitiveness and achieving development. He expressed his pleasure with the meetings that bring together young Kuwaitis and Mexicans and contribute to building friendships that can strengthen relations between the two countries for future generations.

Ambassador Peña Haller affirmed that Mexico attaches great importance to its relations with Kuwait and to the friendship that has been consolidated over decades between the two countries and their peoples. He expressed his hope to continue close work with the relevant Kuwaiti authorities to deepen political dialogue, expand economic and trade relations, enhance cultural and educational exchange, and open new areas for cooperation, including in the sports sector.

Returning to the occasion, the Mexican Ambassador stated that celebrating the 216th anniversary of his country’s independence is an opportunity to recall Mexico’s history and share the richness of its history, heritage, culture, and traditions with Kuwaiti friends. He added that it is also an opportunity to reflect on the distinguished journey of relations linking the two countries and the promising horizons that can be opened together in the future.

He explained that Mexico gained its independence in 1821, based on the principles of liberty and the pursuit of social equality through the abolition of slavery and the caste system, and the establishment of justice and popular sovereignty.

He noted that Mexico’s population currently stands at approximately 133 million, and that it ranks 13th among the world’s largest economies. It ranks 10th globally in goods exports and 5th globally in agricultural and food product exports. According to the World Trade Organization, it is also the world’s leading exporter of fruits and vegetables.

The Ambassador expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude for the attendance of Kuwaiti officials, members of the diplomatic corps, the Mexican community, and friends, affirming that their participation in this occasion reflects the friendship and good intentions that unite Mexico and the State of Kuwait.

Ambassador Peña Haller expressed his hope that Kuwait, under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Amir of Kuwait, and His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, Crown Prince, will contribute to helping the Arab Gulf region achieve lasting peace.

He concluded his speech by affirming the depth of friendship between Mexico and Kuwait, saying: “Long live Mexico… Long live Kuwait… And may the friendship between Mexico and Kuwait endure.”
