Kuwait Endorsed for Membership on the IAEA Board of Governors for the 2026–2028 Term

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the State of Kuwait’s gratitude to the member states of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for their unanimous endorsement, during the 70th session of the General Conference, of Kuwait’s election to the Agency’s Board of Governors for the 2026–2028 term, representing the Middle East and South Asia (MESA) group. This outcome reflects the confidence placed in the State of Kuwait and its active role in supporting international efforts to enhance cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

The Ministry affirmed that Kuwait’s membership on the Board of Governors is a continuation of its steadfast approach to supporting the nuclear non-proliferation regime, strengthening the IAEA’s safeguards system, and upholding the highest standards of nuclear security and safety, thereby contributing to the preservation of international peace and security and enhancing international cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

The Ministry also reaffirmed the State of Kuwait’s commitment to multilateralism and close cooperation with the IAEA and its member states, in order to achieve common objectives and support international efforts aimed at safeguarding international peace and security and promoting the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

In a separate development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the State of Kuwait’s condemnation and strong disapproval of the explosion that targeted a mosque in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of several police officers and civilians.

The Ministry affirmed the State of Kuwait’s full solidarity with the friendly Islamic Republic of Pakistan and its rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism, extending its sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of friendly Pakistan and to the families of the victims, and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
