Al-Ahli bids farewell to the FIFA Club World Cup

Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli lost 1-2 to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, in the final of the Asia, Africa and Oceania Cup, part of the Club World Cup.

Portuguese forward Nuno Santos opened the scoring for Sundowns in the 17th minute, before Al-Ahli equalized two minutes later when South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams accidentally scored an own goal.

The match remained level until the 80th minute, when Santos scored his second goal of the game with a header, securing the win for Sundowns and their advancement to the semifinals, where they will face the Americas champion next December.
