Sailing added to the 16th Arab Games

Khalid Al-Foudri, Vice President of the Arab Sailing Federation and General Secretary of the Kuwaiti Marine Sports Club, pointed to the executive committee meeting for sailing held on Saturday in Jeddah. The meeting was attended by the Federation President, Sheikh Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, and the General Secretary, Saeed Zadeh. The committee reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting and the implementation notes of its decisions. It also examined the General Secretary’s report on the Federation’s activities over the past period, the Treasurer’s report, and recommendations submitted by the auxiliary committees. Additionally, the committee reviewed the proposed work plan for the upcoming period, the draft budget for the coming period, and the status of payment of previous membership fees up to the date of the meeting. It set the date for the General Assembly meeting to be held after the conclusion of the Olympic Games. The committee discussed the proposal for Algeria to host the next Arab Sailing Championship in 2027 and the fourth Arab Women’s Championship in 2027. It also reviewed letters, proposals, and requests submitted by member federations.

Al-Foudri stated that the meeting discussed new items on the agenda, including a letter from the Bahraini Marine Sports Federation requesting that the Federation contact the Arab National Olympic Committees Association to seek the inclusion of sailing among the sports participating in the 16th Arab Games in 2027. The committee also urged Arab member federations to participate in the third Arab Women’s Championship, to be held in the Sultanate of Oman from October 15 to 21, 2026. Furthermore, it considered a request for approval of the Syrian Rowing, Diving, and Marine Sports Federation’s accession to the Arab Sailing Federation. The committee emphasized adherence to the regulations concerning the internal bylaws of the Arab Sailing Federation regarding the organization of Arab championships, ensuring that no player participates without holding the Arab nationality of the country they represent, and that no Arab championship is held on the sidelines of any other championship.

It is worth noting that the executive committee meeting of the Federation, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Jeddah, coincides with the 2026 Arab Optimist Class Championship. This event is organized by the Saudi Sailing Federation under the umbrella of the Arab Sailing Federation, from September 17 to 21 of this month. The national sailing team is participating in the championship, led by the General Secretary and Chairman of the Sailing, Rowing, Kayak, and Kiteboard Committee, Khalid Al-Foudri.
