Al-Badawi: GCC States are a reliable partner for peace and a cornerstone for energy stability and global prosperity
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Al-Budaiwi, affirmed that GCC member states have solidified their position as a reliable partner in supporting peace and stability, and ensuring global energy security. He noted that the progress achieved in economic development and diplomatic presence reflects an approach based on responsibility, building partnerships, and working to extend the impact of stability and prosperity to the peoples of the region and the world.
This statement was made during his address at the Gulf States Forum hosted by the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, United States, where he outlined the GCC’s journey, its regional and international roles, and the prospects for enhancing Gulf-U.S. cooperation in education, scientific research, and the economy.
Al-Budaiwi emphasized that, regarding energy security, GCC member states have demonstrated their ability to fulfill their commitments under the most difficult circumstances. He stated that they have responded to regional escalations and disruptions in navigation through the Strait of Hormuz with restraint and responsibility, while continuing efforts to maintain the flow of supplies through alternative routes. In this regard, he reiterated condemnation of ongoing Iranian attacks on neighboring countries and the escalation and instability they foster in the region.
He outlined Gulf mediation efforts aimed at bridging differences and paving the way for dialogue, seeking fair solutions that address legitimate security concerns and spare the region’s peoples from further suffering. He also highlighted the rapid transformation underway in GCC member states, driven by their national visions, through diversifying revenue sources and expanding sectors such as financing, logistics, industry, tourism, and technology.
The Secretary-General affirmed that Gulf-U.S. cooperation offers broad prospects for building a knowledge-based economy, particularly in artificial intelligence research, medical sciences, and clean energy. He stressed that investing in human capital and building capabilities is among the most impactful investments for the future of relations between the two sides.
