Tight ambush catches six-member Asian gang that stole cables, copper, and iron worth thousands of dinars in Al-Mutlaa
Manzur Al-Sultan: Criminal Investigation Department officers managed to apprehend a gang consisting of six Asian expatriates who specialized in stealing electrical cables, copper, and iron from government buildings and houses under construction in the Muntalea area, before selling the stolen goods by the kilogram at the Umghara scrapyard.
According to details provided by a security source to Al-Anbaa newspaper, following several reports of thefts targeting construction sites and buildings under construction, specifically targeting cables, copper wires, and iron, the Criminal Investigation Department formed a team to follow up on the cases and reports. After intensifying investigations and surveillance that lasted several days, the identities of the gang members were established. It was revealed that they were six expatriates of Asian nationality, and their activities were monitored at several locations.
The source stated that after completing the necessary legal procedures, the Criminal Investigation Department officers apprehended the suspects during a carefully planned ambush. A large quantity of various stolen items was found in their possession, including cables, copper wires, and pieces of iron, with an estimated value of thousands of Kuwaiti dinars.
He added that during preliminary interrogations, the gang members confessed to stealing iron and copper wires from government buildings and houses under construction in Muntalea City, taking the materials, then transporting them to the Umghara scrapyard and selling them by the kilogram, exploiting the nature of the scrapyard’s business in disposing of stolen goods.
The source continued: The seized items have been secured pending an inventory and cross-checking with registered theft reports. Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department is working to identify all locations targeted by the gang and uncover any other individuals who may be connected to their activities or assisted in disposing of the stolen goods. Subsequently, they and the seized items will be referred to the Public Prosecution to take the necessary legal action against them.
