Saudi Cabinet reaffirms the Kingdom's legitimate right to self-defense and protection of its sovereignty
His Royal Highness Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the meeting of the Council of Ministers held in Jeddah. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the Crown Prince briefed the Council on the content of a phone call he received from Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and on the outcomes of his meeting with U.S. Central Command Commander Admiral Brad Cooper. The discussions with both sides included an overview of current developments in the region.
The Council of Ministers strongly condemned the ongoing, malicious, and deliberate attacks by the terrorist Houthi militia on civilian targets and civilians in the Kingdom. It affirmed that the security of the country, the integrity of its territory, and its resources are a firm principle that tolerates no infringement, and that the Kingdom’s legitimate right to defend itself, protect its sovereignty, citizens, residents, and vital interests, is in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
Minister of Media Salman bin Yousef Al-Dosari, in his statement to SPA following the meeting, clarified that the Council followed developments in the region and worldwide, as well as the efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to consolidate peace and security, relying on a dialogue-based approach to managing international issues and working to support cooperation prospects with the international community, including its bodies and organizations, thereby contributing to strengthening collective responses to shared global challenges.
The Council reviewed the outcomes of the Kingdom’s participation, as an invited country, in the 18th BRICS Summit held in New Delhi, India. The summit reaffirmed the Kingdom’s interest in enhancing communication with various countries worldwide regarding areas of mutual cooperation that serve development, stability, and prosperity, and support the capacity of international systems to fulfill their responsibilities.
The Council also addressed the Kingdom’s reaffirmation at the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that it has established, over decades, its position as a reliable source of energy and an active partner in stabilizing global markets. This is pursued alongside continuing to build a diversified and sustainable national energy mix, including the addition of nuclear energy within a robust regulatory framework aligned with international commitments.
The Council reviewed the items on its agenda. It reached several decisions, including “authorizing the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Insurance Authority, or his delegate, to negotiate with the Kuwaiti side regarding a draft memorandum of understanding between the Authority and the Insurance Regulation Unit of the State of Kuwait on cooperation and information exchange in the field of insurance and reinsurance, and to sign it.”
