Al Jazeera wins the IDC CIO Technology Excellence Award

Jazeera Airways has won the IDC CIO Excellence in Technology Award in Kuwait for its “Baraka Initiative,” an exceptional, large-scale operational undertaking launched by the company during the temporary closure of Kuwait International Airport this year to maintain Kuwait’s connectivity with the world. The selection of Jazeera Airways from among a large pool of competing companies across Kuwait recognized the innovation, leadership, and impact embodied by the “Baraka Initiative,” including the rapid development and deployment of technological solutions that enabled the company to manage its operations under exceptional, complex, and unprecedented operational conditions.

The “Baraka Initiative” commenced on March 11, 2026, when Jazeera Airways established alternative operational centers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, alongside an integrated air and ground transport corridor to connect travelers with Kuwait. Over the course of the initiative, Jazeera Airways operated more than 1,500 flights and ran over 9,000 bus trips, providing approximately 200,000 seats to 27 destinations through the operation of 14 aircraft, supported by the efforts of more than 500 employees.

Technology played a pivotal role in executing the “Baraka Initiative.” Jazeera Airways’ teams rapidly developed and implemented a suite of digital solutions that provided greater operational visibility and enhanced coordination and real-time decision-making across multiple sites. These solutions included the R2P bus monitoring system, developed in just five days to track and coordinate bus movements, alongside enhanced operational dashboards and data-driven tools to support work teams throughout the mission.

As part of the IDC CIO Excellence in Technology Awards in Kuwait, both Captain Ayman Al-Shammari and Pravul Thumar also participated in two panel discussions. Captain Al-Shammari contributed to a session titled “How IT, HR, and Business Leaders Are Shaping the Future of the Workforce,” while Pravul Thumar participated in a session on “Agentic AI in Practice: Use Cases Across Sectors and Early Successes.”
