Cameroon Clubs Association Calls for Investigation into Eto'o

The Amateur Clubs Association of Cameroon has called for an investigation into the country’s football federation and its president, Samuel Eto’o, following media reports alleging corruption. Eto’o has been accused of illegally receiving a financial payment from the Russian Football Union in connection with a friendly match between the two national teams held in October 2023. According to the association’s allegations, the Russian Football Union breached the terms of the contract signed with its Cameroonian counterpart by transferring approximately 567,000 euros (654,000 dollars) to a bank account that does not belong to the Cameroonian Football Federation. The association also announced its intention to file a lawsuit against Eto’o, the former striker for Spanish club Barcelona and Italian club Inter Milan, before Cameroonian courts, alongside lodging a separate legal complaint in Russia against the Russian Football Union. Last month, Eto’o declared his support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who has faced growing criticism and calls for resignation over a controversial plan to sell World Cup rights, which was later retracted. Eto’o stated that the Italian-Swiss official “has not committed any wrongdoing.”
