VAR officials ruled out after Haaland's goal error in the Manchester derby

Michael Oliver, the assistant video referee who approved Erling Haaland’s decisive goal in Manchester City’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United, has been assigned no Premier League matches in the upcoming round.

His assistant, Paul Tierney, has also been sidelined from any officiating duties, after the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) stated in a statement that the VAR system erred in awarding Haaland’s goal.

The decision was taken by PGMOL chief Howard Webb and his team, and neither referee is expected to return to officiating duties before at least the end of the international break.

Haaland’s second-half goal was initially disallowed for offside before being reinstated following a VAR review.
