794 Buildings Under Construction: Where Is Construction Activity Concentrated in Kuwait?

Official data released by the Public Authority for Civil Information shows that the number of buildings under construction in Kuwait stands at 794, distributed across the six governorates. The Al Ahmadi Governorate alone accounted for the largest share, with 366 buildings, representing 46.1% of the total buildings under construction in the country.

The data reveals that the Capital Governorate ranked second, with 131 buildings under construction, accounting for 16.5% of the total. Al Ahmadi Governorate came in third, recording 95 buildings, which equates to approximately 12% of the total buildings under construction.

In the remaining governorates, Al Jahra recorded 84 buildings under construction, followed by Farwaniya with 74 buildings, while Hawalli ranked last among the six governorates with 44 buildings. A distribution map shows that Al Ahmadi and the Capital Governorates together account for 497 buildings under construction, representing approximately 62.6% of the total. The remaining 297 buildings are distributed among Al Ahmadi, Al Jahra, Farwaniya, and Hawalli.

The disparity becomes even more pronounced when comparing Al Ahmadi with the other governorates. The number of buildings under construction in Al Ahmadi exceeds that of the Capital Governorate, which ranks second, by approximately 235 buildings. Moreover, Al Ahmadi alone surpasses the total number of buildings registered in Al Ahmadi, Al Jahra, and Farwaniya combined, which amounts to 253 buildings.

The data reflects the continuation of construction activity across various regions of Kuwait, albeit at varying degrees, with a clear concentration of activity in Al Ahmadi Governorate, compared to lower levels in the other governorates. These figures provide a direct snapshot of the map of buildings still under construction and the extent of variation in construction activity between governorates, as hundreds of buildings under construction form part of the existing urban and construction landscape in the country.
