Fayez Al-Azmi: Unifying Arab trade union positions to defend workers' rights

The President of the General Federation of Kuwaiti Workers, Faiq Al-Azmi, called for the unification of Arab trade union positions and the strengthening of solidarity to confront challenges and defend workers’ interests, rights, and gains. This came in a statement Al-Azmi gave to KUNA on Monday, while participating in the 52nd session of the Arab Labour Conference held in Cairo, which was attended by a delegation from the federation led by him.

Al-Azmi said that the participation reflects the Kuwaiti trade union movement’s commitment to enhancing its Arab and international presence and strengthening cooperation among Arab federations and trade unions in ways that serve workers’ causes. He clarified that the Kuwaiti delegation is participating to present the perspectives of the Kuwaiti trade union movement, defend workers’ rights, promote trade union freedoms, and uphold the principles of decent work and social justice. He affirmed the federation’s continued role in protecting the rights of both Kuwaiti and migrant workers, and in supporting partnership and dialogue among production stakeholders to enhance development and stability in the labor market.

He stressed that Kuwait will remain a supporter of joint Arab efforts and the Arab trade union movement, expressing his hope that the conference’s outcomes will contribute to improving the conditions of work and workers in the Arab world. He praised Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s patronage of the conference, and expressed his appreciation to Egypt for hosting the event and ensuring its successful proceedings.
