"Blooming" Little Player Follows Mahrez's Footsteps

Algerian winger Mohamed Berriche Beloumi, son of former “Sahara Warriors” national team star Lakhdar Belloumi, has drawn attention much like his club, Hull City, in the English Premier League, evoking memories of his compatriot Riyad Mahrez’s brilliance with Leicester City and Manchester City.

Beloumi, who plays as a right winger like Mahrez, has featured in four league matches so far, scoring two goals and providing one assist. The 24-year-old netted his first two league goals within a six-minute span (28th and 34th minutes) with two left-footed strikes, although the second goal benefited from a deflection off a Chelsea defender.

His brace turned the tide against the London club, which had taken the lead through Morgan Rogers in the 7th minute before Brazilian Joao Pedro equalized in the 66th. Beloumi’s two goals earned the “Tigers,” currently third in the table, a valuable point at Stamford Bridge.

This impressive display did not go unnoticed by the Premier League, whose official Arabic-language account shared a photo of Beloumi alongside Mahrez with the caption, “The legacy continues.”

It appears Beloumi is following in Mahrez’s footsteps in England. Mahrez played a key role in Leicester City’s return to the Premier League in 2014, just as young Beloumi helped Hull City achieve promotion last summer. Mahrez then led Leicester to the Premier League title in the 2015-16 season before winning every possible domestic and continental trophy with Manchester City. Beloumi dreams of replicating that journey, relying on his quality, speed, and strong on-field personality, which mark him as a promising talent and a target for top clubs in the near future.

Beloumi, whose transfer value stands at six million euros, is in his third season with the Tigers. After helping them secure promotion to the Premier League for the first time in ten years, he is now competing at a level he had never previously approached in his career.

The 24-year-old, born in Mascara and standing 1.77 meters tall, played a crucial role in keeping Hull City’s unbeaten run intact over four matches, including a notable 2-0 victory over Manchester United.
