Married Couples Contribute Most to Kuwait's Economic Activity

Kuwait officials: Official data released by the Public Authority for Civil Information revealed that married individuals are the most active in Kuwait’s economic activity, with a participation rate of 80.8%, reflecting a stronger connection to the labor market compared to other marital status groups.

The data showed that the economic participation rate for married men stands at 88.9%, compared to 68.9% for married women, highlighting a clear gender gap. Single individuals ranked second in economic participation with a rate of 70.3%. According to the data, the participation rate for single men is approximately 78.3%, compared to 52.1% for single women, indicating that while economic participation among singles remains high, it varies significantly between men and women.

Divorced individuals ranked third in economic participation at 59.4%, with divorced men contributing at a rate of 68.2% and divorced women at 54.6%. Widows recorded the lowest participation rate among all marital status groups at 16.3%, with widowed men at 26.7% and widowed women at 14.6%.

These figures reveal a clear link between marital status and the level of economic participation. Married individuals lead by a significant margin, while participation rates drop notably among widows. This suggests that family structure and marital status are closely tied to economic engagement, though this relationship differs between men and women.

Citizens

Regarding nationality, married citizens led in economic participation with a rate of 59.6%. Married Kuwaiti men participated at a rate of 58.6%, while married Kuwaiti women participated at approximately 60.7%. This distribution shows that married Kuwaiti women have a higher participation rate than married Kuwaiti men, a trend that contrasts with the general pattern where married men’s participation exceeds that of married women.

Among citizens, divorced individuals ranked second in economic participation with a rate of 57%. Divorced Kuwaiti men participated at 62%, while divorced Kuwaiti women participated at 54.5%. Single Kuwaitis ranked third with a participation rate of 29.7%, comprising 32.4% for single men and 26.6% for single women. Widows ranked fourth with a participation rate of 11.5%, with widowed men at 12.5% and widowed women at 11.3%.

The data for citizens indicates that the gap in economic participation between married and divorced individuals is relatively small, compared to the large gap with singles and widows. The data also reveals a significant difference in the ranking of participation between citizens and residents, reflecting a clear disparity in labor market attachment between the two groups.

Residents

Among residents, married individuals led in economic participation with a rate of 86.7%, comprising 96.1% for male residents and 71.7% for female residents.

Single residents ranked second with an economic participation rate of 83.2%, including 88.5% for single men and 67.3% for single women.

Divorced residents ranked third with a participation rate of 63.9%, with divorced men at 78.5% and divorced women at 54.7%.

Widows ranked fourth with a participation rate of 26.4%, comprising 61.1% for widowed men and 21.2% for widowed women.
