International solidarity with Saudi Arabia and condemnation of the attack on the East-West pipeline
Many Arab, Islamic, and foreign countries have condemned the attack on the East-West pipeline in the Riyadh and Medina regions, which was carried out by several drones originating from Iraq, resulting in casualties and damage. At the same time, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia affirmed its right to take all measures necessary to protect its sovereignty, security, facilities, citizens, and residents.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a telephone conversation with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the call discussed developments in the regional situation and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region, contributing to its security and stability. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom’s strongest condemnation of the targeting of the East-West pipeline in the Riyadh and Medina regions by several drones launched from Iraq, which resulted in casualties and some damage.
In a statement relayed by the official news agency (SPA), the ministry clarified that, at the request of the Iraqi Prime Minister’s office to allow the government of friendly Iraq to take measures to prevent attacks launched from Iraqi territory against the Kingdom and neighboring countries, the Kingdom chose not to respond at this stage and supported the Iraqi government’s efforts. The ministry emphasized that the Kingdom reserves its right to take all measures necessary to protect its sovereignty, security, facilities, citizens, and residents.
The attack sparked a wide range of international condemnations. Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassem Al-Bedawi stated that this attack constitutes a serious escalation and an unacceptable threat to the Kingdom’s security, territorial integrity, and vital facilities, representing a blatant violation of international law principles. He stressed the GCC’s firm rejection of all acts targeting the security, stability, and national assets of the region. Al-Bedawi emphasized the importance of the Iraqi government making further efforts and taking necessary and firm measures to prevent the use of its territory as a launching pad for such attacks, working to stop them and prevent their recurrence, thereby contributing to preserving regional security and stability and sparing the region further escalation. He reaffirmed the GCC’s full and steadfast support for the Kingdom and its backing of all measures and steps taken to protect its security, stability, territorial integrity, facilities, citizens, and residents.
For its part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain strongly condemned the targeting, considering it a blatant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and principles of good neighborliness, and an attack on vital civilian infrastructure affecting energy supply security. The ministry affirmed Bahrain’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, stating that its security and stability are an integral part of Bahrain’s own security and stability. It emphasized the Kingdom’s right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security, facilities, citizens, and residents in accordance with international law, and expressed wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Qatar also strongly condemned the attack. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a release that targeting civilian and economic facilities constitutes a criminal act, a blatant violation of international law, and a serious escalation that could undermine regional security and stability. It appreciated the responsible approach adopted by the Kingdom in supporting the Iraqi government’s efforts to prevent the use of its territory to attack the Kingdom and neighboring countries. The ministry expressed Qatar’s full solidarity with the Kingdom and its support for all measures taken to protect its sovereignty, security, and facilities.
The Sultanate of Oman, in turn, expressed its condemnation of the targeting of the East-West pipeline in Saudi Arabia, reaffirming its firm stance rejecting these attacks and the targeting of vital and civilian facilities, regardless of motives or causes. In a statement by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs published by the Oman News Agency yesterday, Oman reiterated its solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures aimed at protecting its territory, vital facilities, and ensuring its security and stability. It stressed the necessity of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and avoiding anything that could threaten regional security and stability, calling on all parties to exercise wisdom and restraint in dealing with these developments and to prioritize dialogue and address the root causes through political and diplomatic means and solutions.
The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the attacks targeting the East-West pipeline. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a release yesterday that these aggressive attacks represent a blatant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and a threat to its security and stability. The ministry reaffirmed the UAE’s full solidarity with the Kingdom and its support for all measures aimed at preserving its security and stability.
Egypt strongly condemned the attacks, describing them as a blatant violation of international law that undermines regional security and stability. In a statement by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt affirmed its full solidarity with the Kingdom and its standing by its side in facing all threats to its security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its complete support for all measures and steps taken to protect its security and stability. It expressed Syria’s strongest condemnation of the targeting, considering it a flagrant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and a blatant breach of international law and the UN Charter.
Jordan also condemned the targeting, considering it a flagrant violation of Saudi sovereignty, a threat to its security and stability, and a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter. The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a release that Jordan affirms its absolute solidarity with the Kingdom and its complete support for all steps taken to protect its sovereignty, security, national assets, and the safety of its citizens and residents.
Islamabad reiterated its firm support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, and prosperity, expressing solidarity with its leadership, government, and people. It strongly condemned the reprehensible attacks targeting civilian infrastructure, deeming them a blatant violation of international law, Saudi sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as a serious threat to peace, security, and stability in the region.
Mauritania and Cyprus both expressed their strong condemnation of the attacks, reaffirming their firm rejection of all acts targeting civilian and vital facilities that threaten the Kingdom’s security. They affirmed their solidarity and support for the Kingdom in facing various threats to its security and stability. The Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a release: “Cyprus expresses its full solidarity with the affected countries and their peoples, and stresses the importance of respecting freedom of navigation and international law, in accordance with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.”
The Muslim World League strongly condemned the targeting. The League’s Secretary-General, Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin AbdulKarim Al-Issa, denounced these treacherous criminal attacks, which violate all religious values, international laws, and human customs. He affirmed, on behalf of the League’s assemblies, bodies, and global councils, and on behalf of all Islamic peoples under its umbrella, full solidarity with the Kingdom in all measures taken to deter aggressors, preserve its security, sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens and residents.
The General Secretariat of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) also expressed its strong condemnation and rejection of the attacks yesterday. In a press release, it affirmed its full solidarity with the Kingdom and its support for all measures taken to protect its security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, national assets, and the safety of its citizens and residents. It stressed that targeting energy facilities and vital infrastructure threatens the security and stability of energy supplies and could have negative repercussions on energy markets and the global economy, expressing wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured.
