Kuwait Finance House Receives ISO Certification for Environmental Management System

Kuwait Finance House (KFH), represented by its General Services Department, has received the ISO 14001 certification for its Environmental Management System (EMS) from the global organization Bureau Veritas. This achievement reflects the bank’s commitment to applying the highest international standards in environmental protection and resource conservation, and underscores the strength and effectiveness of its sustainability framework and institutional commitment, in line with national directions and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Previously, the bank had obtained two ISO certifications for Quality Management and Facility Management from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), reaffirming its dedication to the highest global standards in business quality, operational discipline, and service excellence.

The Environmental Management System (EMS) constitutes a comprehensive framework for managing environmental responsibilities and enhancing institutional environmental performance, by identifying and monitoring environmental aspects and impacts associated with various activities, processes, and facilities, thereby ensuring compliance with applicable environmental requirements and legislation.

Ayman Al-Tabtabaei, Chief Executive Officer of Public Services at Kuwait Finance House (KFH), stated: “This achievement embodies KFH’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its operational efficiency and implementing global best practices in environmental protection, pollution prevention, optimal resource utilization, and supporting sustainable operations, reflecting a firm institutional approach to environmental issues and sustainability practices.”

He added that obtaining the ISO 14001 certification followed a comprehensive audit that confirmed the efficiency of operational and technical procedures, as well as the bank’s capacity for continuous development and improvement in areas related to environmental protection and enhancing sustainability standards.

Al-Tabtabaei noted that this accreditation adds to KFH’s distinguished record of global certifications and accreditations, emphasizing that the bank’s strategic objective is to enhance environmental performance, reduce its carbon footprint, and consolidate sustainability practices, thereby supporting the achievement of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) sustainability goals and strengthening its position as a leading financial institution in this field.

Environmental Sustainability

KFH continues to implement its initiatives and programs aimed at enhancing sustainability, protecting the environment, and reducing carbon emissions, within a comprehensive vision that balances economic growth with environmental and social responsibility, contributing to supporting sustainable development in society.

KFH has received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum and Gold certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council, after several of its branches met the specific standards and requirements for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, thereby confirming its leadership in adopting best environmental practices in the banking sector.

The LEED certification is one of the most prominent globally recognized systems for evaluating and classifying buildings according to sustainability and resource efficiency standards. It measures a building’s environmental performance level through several key dimensions, including energy efficiency, water efficiency, carbon emission reduction, indoor environmental quality, and the use of sustainable building materials.

In line with its adoption of innovative environmental solutions, KFH successfully attracted and operated the latest global technologies for extracting water from air using advanced devices based on Atmospheric Water Generator technology. This technology utilizes an Italian patented process manufactured by a Kuwaiti company. These devices have been operational in six branches: Bayan, Salwa, Sabah Al-Salem, Jabir Al-Ahmad, Granada, and Al-Khalidiya.

KFH is the first and only bank in Kuwait to adopt this innovative technology for water production to meet the daily operational needs of its branches. The produced water is characterized by a high degree of purity, thanks to advanced extraction and purification stages that ensure the highest quality standards.
