Minister of Justice: Cases of assault on public officials down by 92%

Abdul Karim Ahmad: Justice Minister and Advisor Nasser Al-Samait said that legislative updates in the current phase focus on criminal, economic, and social aspects, emphasizing that the Ministry is working to achieve a “100% Kuwaiti judiciary by September 30, 2030.”

Al-Samait added, in remarks made on the sidelines of his inspection of the written exams for applicants seeking the position of junior legal researcher, that the Ministry is keen on reducing crime rates through the development of legislation. He pointed out that cases of assault on public officials decreased by 92% following a legislative amendment that ruled out the validity of a victim official’s waiver.

He clarified that electronic litigation will initially begin in family cases, due to their sensitivity and special nature, with plans to expand its application later.

He revealed that law agencies will be classified by color starting next year, depending on their nature. He explained that some agencies may include a personal photograph upon the owner’s request, particularly to facilitate transactions in countries that require a personal photo on agencies dealing with real estate transactions.

He noted that among the upcoming laws are the Penal Code, Personal Status (Family) Law, Advocacy Law, and Commercial Arbitration Law, emphasizing the commitment to addressing certain flaws in the Family Law, including disparities in the assessment of alimony.

Al-Samait also noted that real estate registration will undergo an electronic transformation through an online platform that will begin operations next year, contributing to facilitating and accelerating the completion of transactions.
