Red Crescent launches campaign for World First Aid Day to enhance community awareness
The Kuwait Red Crescent Society launched today, Saturday, an event for World First Aid Day at The Avenues Mall, aiming to raise awareness of the importance of first aid, promote its culture among members of society, and reinforce basic skills for responding to emergencies.
Khaled Al-Mugams, Chairman of the Society’s Board of Directors, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that disseminating the culture of first aid and enhancing community awareness of its basic skills are of great significance, given the role these skills play in saving lives and mitigating the complications of injuries and emergency cases until specialized medical teams arrive.
Al-Mugams added that the Society places great emphasis on training and awareness in the field of first aid, in line with its humanitarian mission and its commitment to strengthening society’s ability to respond appropriately and swiftly to various emergency situations. He stressed that first aid is a fundamental knowledge that should be promoted across all segments of society and is not a skill limited to healthcare professionals.
He pointed out that possessing the correct skills during the initial moments after an incident can make a real difference in protecting the victim’s life and safety. He noted that the Society continues to organize training courses and programs for volunteers, the public, and various entities and institutions, covering initial assessment of the injured, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and management of bleeding, wounds, burns, and various emergency cases.
He indicated that the Society has sought this year to enhance the readiness of its volunteers as part of emergency preparedness and response plans, through organizing diverse workshops and training courses on first aid and mechanisms for handling cases requiring rapid intervention.
He affirmed the Society’s commitment to expanding the scope of its training programs and strengthening its cooperation with state institutions and various entities to reach the widest possible segment of society, particularly youth, and to reinforce the concept that first aid is a shared societal responsibility and skill that can contribute to saving human lives.
He said that commemorating World First Aid Day represents an opportunity to highlight the importance of acquiring these skills and encouraging members of society to learn them, reiterating the Kuwait Red Crescent Society’s commitment to continuing its humanitarian mission.
