Race Against Time on Mountain Slopes: Paramedic Runs Two Kilometers Uphill to Rescue Climber with Internal Bleeding

A rock-climbing trip on Mount Shortoff in North Carolina, United States, turned into a complex rescue operation after a climber fell from a height of several meters, striking a rock and sustaining serious injuries.

According to the regional emergency management agency, while waiting for a rescue helicopter to arrive for the medics, it became clear that the injured man needed a blood transfusion to stabilize his condition before being airlifted. In this critical moment, paramedic and rescue volunteer Will Super, 28, undertook the arduous task of delivering blood to the remote mountain site.

Super ran more than two kilometers, ascending nearly 300 meters in elevation while carrying the necessary blood for the victim, reaching the site in just 31 minutes. The operation, which took place on August 30, involved 24 agencies navigating steep terrain that required the use of ropes and specialized rescue teams.

Ultimately, a helicopter from the Air Rescue Team successfully lifted the climber from the site and transferred him to a medical helicopter for further treatment.
