Saudi Arabia calls on the UN Security Council to take a clear and firm stance against the terrorist attacks by the Houthi militia

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the terrorist and criminal attacks launched by the Houthi militia, which targeted civilian and economic infrastructure in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran, resulting in the injury of 73 civilians, including women and children.

This statement was made by Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasim, during an emergency session convened by the UN Security Council to discuss the Houthi militia’s attacks on the Kingdom.

Ambassador Al-Wasim warned of the dangers of Houthi escalation and its repercussions on regional security, emphasizing that these attacks do not only threaten the Kingdom’s security, its citizens, and its national assets, but also pose a threat to international navigation and trade in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

He called on the UN Security Council to take a clear and firm stance against these attacks, enabling the Council to fulfill its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security. He stressed the need to ensure the full implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions and to halt all forms of support that enable the Houthi militia to continue its hostile behavior and attacks, which threaten regional security and international maritime routes.

Ambassador Dr. Al-Wasim affirmed the Kingdom’s legitimate right to self-defense, to protect its security, sovereignty, citizens, residents on its territory, and national assets, in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.

He reiterated the Kingdom’s steadfast position toward the Republic of Yemen, which is based on preserving its unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, while affirming the Kingdom’s continued support for achieving a comprehensive and sustainable political solution to the Yemeni crisis under Yemeni leadership, in order to ensure security and stability and meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
